NOTE: The following is OOC.

My dear guild members,

As you may have already noticed, despite the efforts of our dear guild leader and the officers, this guild has become somewhat stagnant of late. We have had members leaving, little or no activity from members(of wich i'm guilty) and new members who have been poorly informed of our rules due to our simple invitation rules, being that everyone could invite. There has been very few organized events, and even fewer people present at them. This guild is not what it once was.

We officers, I hope, will try to change this! Starting with this mail, where I'll carefully explain all the rules of this guild, including a couple of new ones, I hope we can restore this great guild to it's former glory. This will reqire that, not only us officers, but everyone in the guild puts in an effort.

For now, I'll explain the rules of this guild as detailed as I can:

1. The most important thing! This is a ROLEPLAYING(RP) guild. You are expected to behave, talk and otherwise act as you character with everything you write/do in game. The rules don't tell you how you should do it, just that you in some way have to. If you have to mention something about the REAL WORLD(RL) or other things your character shouldn't know, use OUT OF CHARACTER(OOC) talk, which I will specify in the next rule.

2. Like I said, if you need to talk about something that it wouldn't make sense for ou character to be saying, like your grandmothers bithdayparty or how you just got a new pair of pants, use OUT OF CHARACTER(OOC) talk. Simply by writing "OOC:" in front of whatever you might have to say, or typing everything inside double brackets, like this "((grandma's birthday party))", people will know that it is YOU and not YOUR CHARACTER speaking. Another example might be if you've got a new piece of armour, and you want to tell us how nice it is, don't go "check out the stats on my new chestpiece". It wouldn't make sense for any character to talk about the stats of an item. Either tell us using the OOC rules, or refrase it so it sounds like something your character might be saying, like "I've got this new chestpeice, and it's enchantment make me feel a lot stronger!". Get it?

3. All kind of leetspeaking and abbrevations are not allowed. That means you can't say "Sup with u, m8?" or "look at the stats on this leet, phat epix lewt!". I don't take you that long to type and spell things correctly, and everything looks so much nicer that way. This goes for IN CHARACTER(IC) as well as OOC talk.

4. Do not use smileys. Instead write down the emotions of your character. For instance, instead of using a the regular smiley ": )" you simply type *smiles*. See? You can almost picture a happy face.

5. Since we're talking about emoting, there is strict rules, not only in our guild, but everywhere in the ROLEPLAYING(RP) community against POWER-EMOTING! This is when your character types down what his characters does AND what effect is has on ANOTHERS CHARACTER. This is strictly forbidden! An example is: "Powderbeard hits Ladina with the stock of his gun so that she flies several yards into a solid wall and passes out". See that last bit there, from " so that she...."? There I'm emoting what happens to Ladina. I have no right to include that part. In stead I simply put
"Powderbeard swings the stock of his gun at Ladina" I won't even implicate a hit. Now I let Ladina decide if she wants her character to be hit by the stock or not. In this case she could state "Ladina dodges the blow" or "Ladina get's hit and falls to the ground". Get it? You may emote your own actions, but may not include what effect is has upon others. That's for them to decide.

6. Our guild chat is IN CHARACTER(IC) by default. That means that the above rules for OOC talk goes for that as well. It's always nice having those late night IC talks over the guild chat when everyone is at different places in Azeroth. Makes it easy to do some casual roleplaying now and then.

7. This guild will not tolerate beggars. It is perfectly alright to ask for help, or even ask for a loan every once in a while, as long as it's done in a polite manner. But beggars, who keep going on and on about needing to borrow money, or getting a high level to go with him/her to an instance are not tolerated. You will have to accept no for an answer and consider that people might have other things to do than to help you.

8. This guild is a democracy with a simple chain of command. Everyone has a say in everything, with a chosen few acting as officers. All the positions of the guild is open to anyone trough a democratic vote. The officers positions are GUILD MASTER, 2 RACIAL LEADERS and a number of ELITES. The Racial Leader positions are voted over. The Guild Master can chose to appoint an Elite to help out, unless someone in the guild objects. In that case there will be a vote. If you ever need any information or help with guild related issues you should first and foremost talk to either the Guild Master or the Racial Leaders. If none of them are online, you can ask an Elite if he can help. Feel free to come with suggestions, criticism or whatever issues you might have to us officers.

Well, I think that about covers it. I hope we'll get to update the web site, and I'll update the guild information button as soon as possible, with a simpler version of these rules. If you feel that you can't or don't want to comply with these rules, let us know and simply leave the guild in search of one that serves your needs better. That will be better for all of us.

Now at the end here I'd like to say a few words of my own opinion. While a guild might need strong leadership to prevail, it's members should not take things for granted. If you are unhappy about how things are in the guild and want change, speak up! Tell us about it! We'd be happy to accomodate any request, any suggestion. We need you members to be helpful, positve and active. Show that you're interrested in helping this great guild. We do have many great members, we simply don't get to show it as much as we would like to. Just a small effort from everyone would at least help us along the way. Say hello when you come online, ask how things are going, start a conversation, get to know the members. This might seem small, but it will make the atmosphere so much better and it's a small step towards making this guild better! Communication is the key to improving this guild. Passiveness will get us no where. Please, keep in mind all these rules and what I've stated here, and you'll see that this guild will become a much better place for everyone who enjoys to Roleplay!

Regards,

Powderbeard II, Dwarven Racial Leader.

Maybe I sound a bit pessimistic....

But it feels to me that so many people from the "old days" left or stopped playing as much, myself included, and that for this reason the guild will never be the same. It feels like it lost its "spark" and I think it could use some new people to step up and help organize things and keep it alive.

Thing is the "old timers" and officers had become sot of a little faction in the guild, and I think we've failed to properly include our new members. Even at the meetings there were mostly the officers and the "old timers" who had something to say. We need to do a better job of including our new members.

I think it is time we do a clean up in the guild. Now that so many have left or become inactive it seems a good a time as any to let go some old inactive members and invite some new and active members who are interrested in a good gnome/dwarf RP guild.

Also I've talked to a few members, and I know of at least one who I'm going to recommend for an officers position, to help organize things.

I agree with you both Samson and Powder. First of all, we can't just keep going in the same fashion like we always have. We have to change as our members change. If we do not we'll all turn into old gnomes and dwarvs that whine about todays youngsters.
