The race even't was a succest, though we realized some problems which may couse, that no more race are held. Remember, that you too can organize a guild-event! You can suggest different evets too.
Thank you once agen for those who take part to race-event!

There shouldn't be a problem if the person doing the send-off also acts as the judge and decides who was first at the finish line.

The problem is in the anti-lag technology in World of Warcraft. Because all actions sent from clients need to be verified by the servers, playing the game would be excruciatingly jerky and laggy if it weren't for many pre-emptive "softening" systems implemented by Blizzard. (They don't remove the lag, they just hide it from the client as much as possible). To name examples of these systems, there is the client-enforced 1,5 second delay after any spellcasting or ability usage. The actual delay that the server enforces is only 0,5 seconds (as posted by a community manager on the US forums, I think), but Blizzard decided that players would have less trouble in laggy situations (even ideal connections to the server can never hope to realistically have a latency below 200ms over a long period of time) if the client would prepare for a higher latency at all times, thus the limit is 1,5 seconds. It leads to less erronous requests being sent to the server and thus reduces lag and softens the gaming experience of the client.

Another example is the position of characters. If you connect two computers to the same WoW realm and start running with two characters in the same area from a line, you will notice that from the moment the running starts on the other client, it won't become visible on the other client for a seemingly long time, up to a second (because there are several loops that the run command has to process through - first client-to-server, then server processes it, and then server-to-other-clients). Blizzard decided that the exact position of players is only important to be checked by the server so that it agrees with the client that is giving commands, but far less important for other clients. Thus your own view of your own position can never be exactly equal to your true position on the server at any given time, and the position of your character as seen by other clients is somewhere in between these approximations.

This is why any "judge" and "final word giver" in situations like these has to be someone who isn't in the race and has a reasonably steady connection to the server. His/her view won't be the exact truth (besides technology, there's also a human error factor), but it will be the best we can do in situations like these when all the racers usually are very close to each other. smile.gif

otherwise we could just make it 5 or 10 laps.. that way small navigational errors play a bigger part and we can have a bigger time differense between the racers.. it will take a while, but would be more fair.. perhaps?

HMm.. good point. It would take some time, but it would be much more exiting too. One mistake and youre out and you get tired too.
We must think this out
